1. Fox Hotel & Suites

461 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1H8

Hotel rating

1 hot pool
Sauna

Pool open: 8:00 am – 11:00 pm

Instead of your typical swimming pool, you can enjoy a unique experience at this hotel’s grotto hot pool which is inspired by the Cave and Basin National Historic Site, which is only a 10-minute drive from the Fox Hotel + Suites.

The pool is surrounded by rock displays and waterfalls that create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that you won’t find in any of the other Banff hotels.

You get a really unique experience as the roof opens up so you can experience the elements.

In the winter, this means that you can sit in the hot pool and watch the snow fall into the cave.

The pool is open to hotel guests, and no booking is required.

The Fox has a range of hotel rooms (including pet-friendly), and one and two-bedroom suites.

Other amenities include:

  • Sauna
  • Fitness room

This Banff hotel with a pool is ideal if you want to be close to the downtown area, as it’s only a few minutes walk.

Hotel rating

1 swimming pool
1 plunge pool
1 hot tub

Pool open: 7am – 11pm, adults only from 9pm – 11pm.

The pool area at the Banff Park Lodge includes a swimming pool, plunge pool, hot tub, and eucalyptus sauna, perfect after a day skiing or hiking in Banff National Park.

The pool area is open daily with adults only from 9pm – 11pm (recent reviews say this isn’t always enforced).

There’s also a fitness area in the hotel so you can keep up with your workout routine.

The hotel also offers a range of rooms, from standard rooms to suites for six people, so there’s room for everyone.

You won’t have to go far to eat as the hotel has several restaurants onsite.

This hotel is another great option if you want to be close to downtown Banff, as it’s only a few minutes walk away.

You can also use the pool and other amenities here if you are staying at the nearby Peaks Hotel + Suites or Bow View Lodge.

3. Banff Caribou Lodge & Spa

521 Banff Ave, Banff, AB, T1L 1H8

Hotel rating

1 hot pool
Sauna

Pool open: daily 7am – 11pm.

Relax in the 26-person indoor hot pool after a day exploring Banff with the complimentary ROAM transit ticket that the hotel provides.

After a dip in the pool, you can sit in the sauna and relax your muscles, or book yourself in for a treatment at the full-service Red Earth Spa.

The pool is open daily and has a changing room and towels for your convenience.

This hotel has a range of rooms, from standard rooms to suites, and is only about a 10-minute walk into the town centre where you’ll find a wide variety of shops and restaurants.

But you don’t have to go that far for a great meal because there is a Keg restaurant in the hotel lobby.

Other amenities include:

  • Fitness room with free weights, yoga mats, and cardio equipment

Guests staying at the Dorothy Hotel can also use the hot pool, sauna, and fitness room.

4. Royal Canadian Lodge

459 Banff Avenue, Banff, Alberta T1L 1C9

Hotel rating

1 indoor pool
1 indoor hot tub
Steam room

Pool open daily from 7am – 11pm.

At the end of the indoor heated mineral pool is a hot tub set on a raised area.

This is a nice feature because water from the hot tub cascades over the featured stones and into the pool, so you’ll feel nice and relaxed.

There is a spa (Grotto Spa) in the hotel that offers a range of treatments, but check with the hotel before booking if you’re specifically staying here to use the spa, as at the time of writing (August 2023), it is temporarily closed and the spa’s website is down.

The Royal Canadian Lodge provides quick access to downtown Banff.

The hotel has various room types, including suites with fireplaces and jetted tubs.

Other amenities include:

  • Fitness area
  • Steam room, which is just what you need after going for a hike or hitting the slopes.

Hot tub

Pools open daily from 6am – 10pm

The Aquatic Centre at the luxurious Fairmont Hotel has a magnificent 32-metre (105ft) indoor pool that is perfect whether you prefer to take a leisurely dip or engage in some invigorating laps.

The pool is spacious, warm, and well-maintained, with comfortable loungers around it to sit and sip a drink and enjoy the ambiance.

There’s also a kids wading pool and a hot tub.

But outside it gets even better, in my opinion.

When you’re outside in the 20m (66ft) heated pool, you have the mountains as the perfect backdrop.

But we especially liked the pool at night, as you could see what seemed like a million stars twinkling overhead.

We didn’t expect our stay to include stargazing from a pool!  I highly recommend it.

You can also order a drink and sip a cocktail while relaxing in the heated outside pool.

Other amenities include a 24-hour fitness centre with access to:

  • free weights, treadmills, bikes, etc.
  • Exercise studio & All Be Well (fitness programming on your hotel room TV)
  • Scheduled group fitness + yoga classes
  • Free weights + strength training machines
  • Treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes

The Fairmont also has luxury Spa facilities with a wide range of treatments you can book if you feel like being pampered.

If you’re bringing your pet to the hotel, don’t forget to book the pet-sitting service in advance so you can enjoy the pools and other amenities.

The Best Western has an indoor heated swimming pool with a small hot tub in a separate section of the pool.

Although the pool is not as big as other pools in Banff hotels, the maximum pool depth is 1.8m (6ft), so children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Hotel rating

1 indoor pool
Sauna
No hot tub

Pool open: 8am – 10pm

The heated indoor pool at Tunnel Mountain Resort is just off the reception area and has good views from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

We found the pool to be a bit on the small side, and it tended to get crowded in the early evening.

But if you use the pool earlier in the morning, or you’ve got younger kids that just want to splash around, then it should be fine.

You’ll only be a 5-minute drive from downtown Banff, and if you don’t want to drive then a complimentary Roam pass is included.

The bus stop is just outside the hotel reception area.

One of the best things about Tunnel Mountain Resort is their range of accommodations, from standard rooms to large cabins for up to 8 people, all with either a kitchenette or full kitchen, which we’ve found is well stocked with utensils.

Other amenities include:

The pool is on the small side when compared to some of the other hotel pools.

300 Mountain Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1J2

Hotel rating

Indoor heated swimming pool
Indoor hot tub

Pool open: daily from 7am – 11pm, adults only 10pm – 11pm

The Rimrock Hotel is a 4-star resort hotel located in a fantastic location on Sulphur Mountain, just a short drive from downtown Banff.

This luxury hotel has an indoor heated swimming pool and hot tub for guests to enjoy year-round.

As the hotel is surrounded by the Rockies, the pool area also has some amazing scenic views of the nearby peaks.

The pool area is set up for relaxation with plenty of loungers, chairs, and tables.

There are changing room facilities near the pool and pool towels are provided.

You can also use the sauna and steam room.

As this is a 333-room hotel with only one pool, you might sometimes find, as we did, that the pool gets busy at times, especially early evening.

Having said that, the pool is open until late, so there are plenty of other times when it will be quieter.

The pool and fitness areas are very well maintained and clean, as you would expect in a 4-star hotel.

Other amenities include:

  • Spa facilities include a variety of massage treatments and packages

The heated indoor swimming pool at High Country Inn is bright and airy, with great mountain views from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The pool reaches 5ft in depth, so it’s good for swimming but can be deep for kids, so those under 13 must have an adult with them.

There’s plenty of seating around the poolside so you can watch the kids, or just sit and relax and take in the views.

As well as the pool, there are two hot tubs in the pool area that are great for relaxing in after a day of hiking.

And then there’s the cedar dry sauna, which is a great way to relax after a full day of activities.

Fresh towels for the pool area are available at reception.

It’s been a while since we stayed at the High Country Inn, but from what I remember, the pool area was clean and well looked after.
